Hand-Hewn Cedar. Four Shelves. Two Doors. The Bookcase That Does Both.

Great Lakes Timber Cedar Log Bookshelf — hand-hewn Northern White Cedar with four open shelves and two cabinet doors enclosing a lower storage compartment. Four finish options: Unfinished, Clear, Grizzly, and Panda. SKU: 33-HH-RS (varies by finish).

Northern White Cedar is hand-hewn — each log shaped with a chisel to create the characteristic faceted surface texture, then sanded smooth at the edges. Mortise and tenon joinery connects the logs throughout the frame — a traditional timber technique that locks the piece together without relying on hardware alone. Four open shelves handle books and display; the two doors below close off a separate compartment for what you'd rather keep out of sight. The cedar log corner posts carry the collection's characteristic hand-hewn texture throughout the full height of the piece. Grizzly is a proprietary dark brown stain; Panda pairs Grizzly on the frame with Clear on the door panels.

Many, or most of the logs will have cracks. These cracks are called checks. Checking occurs when the logs dry and the cells shrink causing the wood to split. This does not weaken the wood. Checking helps give cedar furniture its rustic beauty.
