The Large Cedar Log Arbor is a freestanding garden arch built from 100% Northern White Cedar — a structural garden feature that frames paths, marks garden entrances, supports climbing plants, and creates vertical presence in a yard or garden layout. At the large scale, this arbor is wide enough to walk through comfortably and tall enough to read as a genuine gateway from across the yard.

An arbor lives entirely in outdoor conditions: soil at the base, rain, humidity, full sun, and temperature changes through every season. Chinese fir, the wood used in most imported garden arches at comparable prices, isn't rot-resistant. In those conditions it degrades in 1 to 3 years — posts soften at ground level, joints at the top loosen, and a structure meant to support climbing plants and frame a garden path becomes a maintenance problem before the climbing roses have had a full season to establish. Northern White Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant without chemical treatment. Cedar garden structures from Lakeland Mills regularly hold up for 10 to 20 years under normal outdoor conditions. The material that works for a cedar log chair works better for a fixed garden structure in permanent outdoor placement.

Placement and Use

Set this arbor at the entrance to a garden bed, over a path between yard sections, at a gate, or anywhere a vertical cedar log structure can anchor the space. The round log construction gives it the visual weight to hold its own against established plantings. Use it as a standalone architectural feature, or as a support structure for climbing plants — roses, wisteria, clematis, and vining annuals all take naturally to cedar log uprights.

Construction is mortise and tenon joinery at the structural connections and galvanized exterior hardware throughout. The natural cream Northern White Cedar tone weathers gradually to silver-grey if left untreated, or accepts any outdoor-rated stain or sealant to maintain the original color or match a specific outdoor palette.

Ships partially assembled with all hardware and instructions. Made in Edmore, Michigan. Family-built since 1923. SKU: CF1157

The Large Cedar Log Arbor is a freestanding garden arch built from 100% Northern White Cedar — the naturally rot and insect resistant wood that has been the standard for outdoor log furniture and structures in Michigan's Great Lakes region for over a century. Mortise and tenon joinery at the structural connections and galvanized exterior hardware throughout. The round log construction gives this arbor the visual weight to function as a genuine garden feature: substantial enough to frame a path entrance, anchor climbing plants, or create a transition point between yard spaces that reads from across the garden.

An arbor is in more demanding outdoor conditions than most furniture: fixed in place, soil contact at the base or ground-level placement, full exposure to rain, humidity, sun, and seasonal temperature changes through every year. Most imported garden arches at comparable prices are built from Chinese fir, which isn't rot-resistant and deteriorates in those conditions in 1 to 3 years. Northern White Cedar contains natural oils that resist moisture, rot, and insects without chemical treatment, and holds up for 10 to 20 years in exactly the outdoor placement an arbor is meant for. A garden structure that needs to be replaced in year two or three doesn't justify the investment of planting and training climbing plants on it.

Ships partially assembled from Edmore, Michigan with all hardware and step-by-step instructions. Place it over a garden path, at a gate, or wherever a vertical cedar log structure can anchor and define the space. Left untreated, Northern White Cedar weathers to a natural silver-grey that blends well with established garden plantings. Apply a penetrating oil, sealant, or outdoor stain to maintain the original pale cream tone or coordinate with a specific landscape palette.
