The ThermaFusion End Table combines a solid Northern White Cedar log frame with a thermally modified wood slat top. The cedar frame uses the same mortise and tenon joinery as the ThermaFusion seating line, built in Edmore, Michigan. The thermally modified top surface is heat-treated to resist moisture, warping, and decay better than standard wood, making it suitable for permanent outdoor installation in any weather.
Thermal modification is a chemical-free process — no preservatives are added to the wood. The heat treatment permanently changes the cellular structure of the slats, enhancing outdoor performance without altering the natural appearance of the wood.
No finish or maintenance is required on either material. The cedar log frame can be left untreated indefinitely; it will weather to a silver-grey over time or maintain its original tone with a penetrating oil applied every few years. Pairs naturally with ThermaFusion loveseats, lounge chairs, and tete-a-tetes.
About ThermaFusion Construction
ThermaFusion is Lakeland Mills' hybrid outdoor furniture line, combining solid Northern White Cedar log frames with thermally modified wood slats. The cedar log frames use the same mortise and tenon joinery Lakeland Mills has built with since 1923 — real logs, real construction, made in Edmore, Michigan. The thermally modified slats undergo a chemical-free heat treatment that makes them significantly more resistant to moisture, warping, and decay than untreated wood. Both materials are designed for permanent outdoor installation without annual maintenance.
A Note on Log Checking
The cedar log frame components may develop small surface cracks as the wood acclimates to changes in temperature and humidity. This is a normal characteristic of solid cedar construction — not a defect — and does not affect structural integrity. The thermally modified slats will not develop this type of surface checking. FAQ
- Does ThermaFusion furniture require sealing or finishing? The thermally modified slats require no sealant or finish — the thermal modification process provides superior resistance to moisture and decay. The cedar log frame can be left untreated as well; it will weather gradually to a silver-grey, or you can apply a penetrating oil to maintain the original tone.
- What is thermal modification and why does it matter? Thermal modification is a chemical-free heat treatment that permanently changes the cellular structure of the wood, making it significantly more resistant to moisture, warping, and decay. No preservatives or chemicals are involved — just heat.
- Can I leave ThermaFusion furniture outside year-round? Yes. Both the Northern White Cedar log frame and the thermally modified slats are designed for permanent outdoor exposure through all four seasons without requiring shelter or covers.
- Does the furniture come assembled? ThermaFusion furniture ships partially assembled with all hardware and detailed instructions included. Most pieces can be completed in under an hour.
